Our event includes a discussion format that focuses on artistic projects and their contribution to coming to terms with colonial history. What role can visual or fine arts such as photography, sculpture or public art play in initiating a social change of perspective in Europe?
Together with artists and experts, we will discuss what specific approaches artistic projects can offer to actively shape decolonial narratives. We will also focus on the colonial continuities that persist in social structures, spaces of memory and power relations. How can artistic projects make these entanglements visible and open up new spaces for thought and action?
At the same time, we reflect on the challenges: What obstacles do politically engaged artistic projects face? What structural conditions influence their effectiveness and reach? Where is there political support and where is there still a need for action? What perspectives do they open up that might be neglected in other decolonial approaches? And how can they contribute to actively shaping the changes Europe is going through?
This dialogue format invites you to actively engage with artistic projects, to explore their transformative power and to provide new impulses for dealing with colonial continuities and decolonial debates in a dynamically changing Europe.
The panelists will be announced soon.
